Great Words to Live By
I am not very inspired today! Maybe because I have been doing so much writing these past few days. (Very
busy working on corperate materials for our program STATIC) Maybe because the weather is perfect here in southeaster Michigan (high 70’s/low 80’s, little to no humidity, sunny) and I am stuck in a room with no windows. Maybe because its August which is typically a time of slowing down for me… a time of rest and regeneration as I prepare for the first push of a very busy year come September. Don’t know. All I know is that our Gospel reading today is outstanding: Matthew 16:24-28 where Jesus talks of taking up your cross and what does it profit to gain the whole world yet loose your life. I read and I reflected… I got nothing. I looked up the saint of today — St. Dominic who started the order of preachers, the Dominicans. He was the contemporary of St. Francis. You would think one of the two would inspire me… I got nothing. So, rather than leave you with a profound sense of loss because I am lacking today; let the words of some great men challenge you to move deeper into your soul.
What does it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? – Matthew 16:26.
Arm yourself with prayer rather than a sword; wear humility rather than fine clothes. -St. Dominic
If God can work through me, he can work through anyone. -St. Francis
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. -Matthew 16:24
If I can succeed in saving only a single soul, I can be sure that my own will be saved. -Saint Dominic
It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching. -St.
Francis
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. -Matthew 16:25
Death but not sin. -St. Dominic
Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. -St. Francis
I pray that one of these quotes will inspire you. Three great men — Jesus, Dominic and Francis. May their words live within our hearts. I remain, Your Servant in Christ,
Theresa

I am glad to see that there are others who are so moved by St. Francis. He was my chosen Saint at my Baptism. I am a Traditional Catholic convert. (Society of Saint Pius X) I don’t know why but something pushed me to write to you and thank you for the prayers that I know you say for the world in which we live in today. Saint Francis would be a good teacher to all of us who are trying to get over the “Change” that has been given the world by God.
I think it is a test of our faith in Jesus Christ. I offer it all up to Him whom offered himself so we might one day be with him in Heaven.
God Bless, Virgil
